Claude 2.0 for small business: what changed and 3 things to try
"Claude 2.0" is what people are calling Claude's big update; Anthropic itself doesn't use that name. What actually changed is plainer: quick questions and whole jobs now sit in one Claude, documents and slide decks come straight out of a chat, and you can schedule a job for every Monday.
Who this is for: owners who do their own admin and want to know what this update lets them do this week. You need the Claude desktop app.
What changed
- Cowork and chat are one Claude (Anthropic, September 16, 2026). Bring a quick question or hand over a whole report. Anything you had in Cowork is where you left it.
- Scheduling is part of it. Anthropic's own example is a task scheduled "for every Monday", so Claude starts on the report without being asked.
- Docs, Slides and Design work in any conversation (release notes, September 15, 2026). Ask for a document or a deck, edit it there, present from Claude, or download it. Out of beta, on every plan including Free.
- Dashboards and Motion are in beta (October 8, 2026), so they can still change.
- Release order: Pro, Max and Ultra first; Anthropic says Team and Free plans will follow soon.
Three things to do this week
Each example uses Harbor Lane Bakery, a demo business made for our course. Add your folder first with Project or folder › Add folder.
1. A client proposal, as a Doc
- Ask in a normal chat. Paste the prompt below. The Doc opens beside the conversation, and you can click into it and type.
- Edit it, then export. Change what doesn't sound like you, then open the Doc's menu and choose Export: Word (.docx), PDF or Markdown. Send it from your own email.
Grace Moreau emailed us about a wedding cake. Her email is Emails/01 Wedding cake tasting.txt in the Harbor Lane folder. Write her a one-page proposal as a Claude Doc: the cake from our price list, our wedding terms, and our house style. Don't send anything.
2. A month summary, as Slides
- Point it at the month's exports. Add the folder with your till or sales exports and say what each slide should cover.
- Check the numbers, then download. Double-click any text to change it. The deck's Download menu offers PDF and PowerPoint; "basic fonts" works on any computer.
Make a five-slide Claude Slides deck of our October for the team, from the files in the Sales folder: total sales, card versus cash, our best sellers, our best day, and one thing to watch in November. Use only numbers from the files.
3. A weekly report, scheduled for Monday
- Set it up from the Scheduled page. Open Scheduled in the sidebar, then New task › Set up manually. Give it a name, paste the instructions below, and set the trigger to every Monday morning.
- Choose Permissions before you click Create. Manual means Claude asks before using new tools or opening new sites; Auto runs without asking; Skip all approvals never pauses, even for unsafe actions. The form we checked was already on Auto, so look before you save.
Summarize last week's invoices and receipts in Harbor Lane on my Desktop into a one-page report, and save it in Harbor Lane/Reports named with the date. Don't send anything.
What can go wrong
- The feature isn't in your app yet. Release goes to Pro, Max and Ultra first, then Team and Free. If scheduling isn't there, nothing is broken; your plan is later in the queue. Docs and Slides are on every plan.
- A deck is built from an incomplete folder. A month with missing invoices becomes a month with missing money. Check the deck's totals against your own records.
- Asking in chat can save the task straight away. When we asked Claude in a normal chat only to prepare a task for review, it switched the schedule on with no review step. Use Set up manually, and check the Scheduled page for anything you didn't mean to keep.
- A scheduled task needs files that live on your Mac. The app's own setting (Settings › Desktop app › Keep computer awake) says Claude must be open for scheduled tasks, and a closed laptop lid still puts the computer to sleep.
Our course shows 31 of these admin jobs, from receipts and invoices to follow-ups and reports; four lessons are free at smallbizwithai.com.
The Monday Routine is a 31-lesson video course that walks you through this on a real-looking demo bakery, then on your own business.
